Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, Western Cape

PaardenEiland meaning an island of horses, was established in 1935 as an industrial area.  It was borne out of a fledging sea shell to lime business and is well situated outside the Duncan Dock in Table Bay Harbour.

The area is the confluence of the Salt River and its tributaries are the Black and Elsieskraal Rivers.  The river rises in Claremont in Ardene Gardens and is borne by canals alongside the M5 Motorway.

With the Duncan Dock less than a kilometre away, the area has become the staging point for businesses in ship chandling and repair, cold storage, logistics and warehousing, and a few showrooms as well.
